Thanks for the comments... My current status:
1) The command "mplayer -vo x11" works just fine with all but one of the
files I tried it on, so obviously that is ok.
2) "mplayer -vo xvidix" *doesn't* work; I have the mplayer-vidix rpm but
it's not installed, because it requires a driver to be installed with it.
Which
is where my original problem came in, since none of the drivers listed were
for my card. For the record, the options were:
3) I don't have an "XF86Config-4" file that I can find; I do have one called
"XF86Config", though, and the instruction 'Load "extmod"' is present and
uncommented in that.
4) It appears - my previous comments notwithstanding - that the standard
(Tim Roberts) driver will not work with my video card. His site points to
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=184#ProSavageDDR
as the offical VIA driver source, but when I download the packages, they
appear to contain nothing but the README file, which isn't really all that
helpful.
Google isn't turning up any possible alternative sources of the driver; does
anyone have any advice?
TIA
Rachael
