Wiki's are an ideology ;-) thats the entire point.  you trust the users not 
to poison the content and in return they add a little of their own to your 
effort.

they are an extension of the open source world only because they are 
normally developed under opensource models they really belong to the 
artistic communities who have co-created and distrubuted works for a number 
of years.

They are a piece of art, and infomation resource and a constantly evolving 
zine and belong more to the world of the photcopied zine than to the world 
of commericial content creation.  They will be used in commercial 
applications as commerce grows up and understands that you don't have to own 
the world to make a living from it.
