NFS is step 4 in my plan for world domination. Coda is
probably in the lower hundreds. I will get there but I
think I need to master the more common (and presumably
simpler) technologies first.

Good point though. I will be taking a look at Coda and
Intermezzo when I've managed to get to grips with NFS
and Samba.
