There aren't really viruses for Linux. The Linux anti-virus software
you can get is targeted at catching *Windows* viruses that are passing
through the Linux machine. Since stuff won't pass through your machine
(it's designed for corporations using Linux as a mailserver) you don't
need any anti-virus software.

Apt is the thing that helps you to install new software under systems
such as Knoppix. I'd concentrate on getting a Linux desktop up and
installed that you're happy with first, and then think about
firewalling when you're about ready to connect to the net regularly.
