can you ping the gateway ?
can ping from the gateway to the win b0x ?

Hmmm this seems mostly right, but let me share my
settings. I am using 192.168.0.1 as my smoothwall box,
and I set the IP address of the gateway to this
address on client machines.
As for your web interface, try http://192.168.0.1:81
(you need the http bit and the :81 bit). If you try
http://smoothwall:81 it may not work if your client
machine is not aware of the host/IP mapping, so stick
to the IP address for now.

I dont understand what you are on about in the
remainder of the email as you first said you get the
169.... IP address but then you say a normal IP at the
end of the email. You should set your range preferably
between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.200 so your
smoothie box is not in the included range. If you
still get a weird IP I am not sure.
