Grey Listing:

On first connect the server gives a Server Busy message which means the 
sending server should try again later. The IP address of the sending 
server is logged and when they try again if the IP matches the log then 
the mail is accepted.

This approach works as most spam these days is sent via hijacked 
machines which do not have spooling facilites.
