Take a look at linphone <http://www.linphone.org>, kphone
<http://www.wirlab.net/kphone>. These are SIP user agent phones.
For Asterisk, take a look at Gnophone <http://www.gnophone.com/> which
uses the native iax protocol.
For external communications take a look at VoIPUser
<http://www.voipuser.org/> who provide free PSTN to VoIP gateways
(inbound only) with local (0844) and national (0870) rate numbers and
they support Asterisk.
