Well I don't know too much about the ins and outs (why
do I always start my posts with some such disclaimer?)
but Hewlett Packard lead the pack a few years back
with their open source friendliness with regard to
their scanners, but they probably ain't cheap and it
was a few years ago. I've never really looked into it
so the SANE website is probably your best bet. I do
know that AGFA aren't very helpful with open source
drivers and thats what I had at the time.
