Please see below about a newbie evening we're having at south birmingham
lug.

We meet at birmingham university at about 7.30 every third thursday of
the month.

I shall be talking about databases for beginners (setting up users and
some basic sql) and there'll be other stuff too.

I know most of you are well beyond this, but it may be useful for some...

Kat

Just a reminder that the newbie evening is on thursday this week (the
17th). We hope to have 4 demo 'corners' with the following topics being
led by the following people. However, I would like to encourage other
experts to come down and lend their experience in any of these sessions.

1) Software installation, (inc package management, build from source
etc)

I think somebody offered to do this but didn't have a laptop. Can you
remind me if it was you, or if anybody else wishes to offer to lead this
session.

> 2) Databases for beginners.

Kat Goodwin.

> 3) Basic Networking.

Tim Williams.

> 4) Linux basics, command prompt, file system etc.

John Pinner.

I'll have 2 large flat screens and the video projector to help out with
small laptop screens. I'll also try to get hold of an extra laptop for the
software install session if whoever does this can't provide their own.
