Knoppix have 3.4 coming up this week or there abouts just after CeBit
Morphix recently annouced 0.5 isn't ready just yet.
As these distros offer a great chance to install debian, getting debian
working well etc, it doesn't really matter which one I eventually chose does
it? I really want KDE3.2 without the hassle of upgrading and having it break
on me and having to use IceWM to fix things.
Currently I have Knoppix3.3 (KDE3.1.4) on my machine and Morphix0.4-KDE
(KDE3.1.5) on my Parents machine. Morphix is more slimed and suited to
slower machines, but I could use that to my advantage on my faster machine.
I want KDE3.2 without the hassle of fixing dependants and fixing apt etc and
at the moment I think Knoppix is leading in getting KDE3.2 pre installed.
Ultimatly I'll be using debian testing and I'll be using debian and not
Knoppix etc and I'll get KDE3.2.1 whenever it goes in to the archive.
Morphix seemed more stable in terms of upgrading / dist-upgrading as opposed
to Knoppix "out of the box", but Morphix needs loads of compilers and
related tools adding after install to be useful. My days of compiling KDE
are coming to a close ... don't have time for libjpeg etc no more.
I could add the download.kde.org debs to my sources.list but I'm fearful of
my sources.list at the moment on my machine, it's a jumbled up mess of
servers, it's a truely pan-global multi-lingual hyper-sourced file, which is
partly Knoppix's fault and partly mine.
I've answered my own question, nevermind ... any thoughts?
Cheers
Lee
