Ok I did it and it wasn't too hard, I must have been
tired or something last time. I have to use the built
in agp support as I have an unsupported agp controller
(viakt400) but using glxgears I get around 2100 frames
per second, or if I hide the actual gears (which is of
course cheating) I get about 5900fps.

I'm not much of a gearhead, but I'm guessing thats
kinda good so I'm happy.

Caveats:

Full screen apps don't work, but this is a known
problem apparently, you have to blindly kill your app
(I had to ssh in and reboot).

Flightgear runs beautifully, all I have to do now is
work out how to fly. Tuxkart and Tuxracer seem
blighted by extraneous scenery polygons in weird
places, but I don't really care too much, at least
they run unlike before.

For the kt400 the best solution is to use a 2.6 series
kernel as 2.4 support isn't great and the inbuilt
support in the radeon driver isn't supposed to work.
Bizarrely the radeon agp support works for me and the
kernel one doesn't. It's supposed to be the other way
round.

Right I'm off to (Return to) Castle Wolfenstein :)

Ad - happy (the building process was still hellish tho)
