If it's the board I think it (NF8 series) is then I
think it takes both, which sounds kinda weird.

The SATA thing maybe related to something I read a
while back.
Essentially many SATA RAID controllers are more
software than hardware. There is a RAID setup tool and
the Windows driver pulls it together. The RAID setup
tool therefore has no effect under Linux, you have to
do software RAID.
