So - deeper debugging

in /etc/samba/smb.conf set log level = 10

service smbd restart
service winbindd restart

echo "-----START DEBUG-----" >> /var/log/smbd/smb.log

id some.user

echo "----STOP DEBUG----" >> /var/log/smbd/smb.log

and then send over all of the log between the 2 markers we inserted into the log

If winbindd logs to a separate log file please send that as well
