I believe some distros have become slower simply because they are
becoming like Micro$oft.  Bloated!  Mandrake 10.1 is a classic
example.  I can run Mandrake 10 a nice enough pace on my Linux tin but
when I tried to run 10.1 it was like trying to wade though treacle.  I
would think that something like Gentoo which is more easily customised
to a particular PC still flies.
