Don't dispair yet, you only just started. Thats the
most fun. Then you fix all of things that didn't work
but you didn't realise first time around (I don't dare
check my site for HTML compliance). Then you really
get moving. You have a good idea so keep going I tend
to splurge on my website every few months and then
don't have time to touch it for the rest of the year.
I still intend to finish off the sections that are
unwritten or incomplete.

I think Kevan, Tim, Mo and the other people getting to
grips with SuSE or FC would disagree.

A blog is only useful if you are planning to write a
lot of stuff in a chronological order that can
essentially be ignored, or linked to from newer
articles, once they become old news. It's essentially
a thought or announcement archive. Thats what I use
mine for. Random thoughts, rants, opinions or utter
bollocks.

With a static website or CMS you can write your
website outwards, with subsections and links to all
pages in that section on the section index page. The
main difference is that your content is essentially
static whereas with your blog it is constantly
changing, you don't see the same material every time.
Do you see what I mean? Blogs are chronological and
you can't see what is in the archive unless you dig
around in it manually or search it. With a regular
site you can see whats there from the links straight
away.

If I understand the purpose of your site correctly, a
blog is of no use to you. You could add a blog if you
want to, if you want to shout into the night air like
I do.

As Sparkes says, it really doesn't take up that much
space. The files are about 1MB uncompressed which
doesn't change unless you upgrade asll content is held
in the database, I think I've made about 25 sizeable
posts and it's about 350k.

Rob would probably recommend a Wiki (until yesterday
;)
