It's one of the reasons that Windows is so flaky.  It will allow a
multitude of problems with either software or hardware.  Then it falls
over.  Not a good thing in my book.  I would rather have an OS that is
that bit more picky and fussy about having things work properly.  It
ends up being far more predictable and easier to maintain that way.
