It look suspiciously like it.

I confess that I admitted defeat: I set up an ext2 partition & put
Thunderbird on that, with a suitable line in /etc/fstab specifying
exec.  TB works fine now from there.

For future reference, how does one persuade hotplug/automount to set
"exec" automatically?
