At the risk of starting a DRM/FLame war here I would suggest that 
although you might believe you have a right as a licence payer the law 
probably doesn't agree with you. As the BBC's content is copyrighted 
they have the right to decide how it is distributed. For example you 
could say you have the right to watch terrestrial TV in NTSC format 
instead of PAL but the BBC doesn't do that (I know there are other 
reasons for this but my point is the BBC decides the format). That being 
said the BBC are in my view one of the most innovative broadcast 
institutions in the world and are embracing new technology for the 
benefit of the licence payers.

They are starting to offer 'podcast' type downloads. The 2 I have seen 
are Radio 4's The Material World and Five Live's Fighting Talk. They 
also are now advertising that all their radio output is available on 
Listen Again via the Radio Player for 7 days from broadcast which is a 
fantastic facility.

I have my DAB plugged into my soundcard with a audio capture utility 
called from a script that reads stuff to be recorded from a DB :-)
