this (make that 3 things), but:

DNS has a mechanism for mail records so that e.g. a company domain can 
be handled by a number of machines.
In your case could you use your load balancer's host name as the 
resolveable address even though the other machines are handling the work?

All I'm really saying is RTF (DNS) Manual for a possible way forward.
