[Wolves] 403 forbidden

I have a drive which is mounted as a directory in my webpath, has been 
web visible but has suddenly started showing 403
when attempt to view it from anywhere.

It is mounted correctly, visible and writable from command line and in 
file browsing windows, is owned by apache and has 777 access rights
There was (but isn't now-removed to see whether it was that) a working 
htaccess file.

Nothing in httpd.conf to prevent access.

Any ideas?
