charities have to disclose these figures publically. Some very large
charities that look like they have a lot of overhead are actually pretty
good with their finances and even with a large staff a large proportion
of the money donated reaches the end recipients.

Some small charitable concerns every penny given reaches the person at
the end and everyone involved donates time and resources for free.

I have only met one person making a decent (well down right criminal)
living from the charity he set up. This bloke was a former director of
several double glazing companies and was once banned from running a
company. Totally not the sort of person who should be running a charity.

But this is only one case from thousands. It does happen but most
people who are involved in charity work either as founders or employee's
would be a lot better off working in the real world.

This is more important than money to a great number of charities. In
the end for most charities staff and transport are probably the biggest
costs. By donating a small portion of your time once in a while to
something you belive in you can make a real difference. While you don't
have a lot of faith in charitable concerns you have shown an excellent
way of donating.
