For the last week or so, Ubuntu has taken upon itself to spontaneously
restart, usually when I am not at the PC to see it happening. It
restarts X and goes to a login screen.

It's really irritating, esp if you have a big download going on
(anyone else enjoy UKNova?).

The Ubuntu forums seem to suggest a hardware problem. I have not
noticed this with the same PC booted into XP, though whenever I plug
my USB flash drive in XP restarts (NOT a problem in Ubuntu).

It makes me think I may have hardware problems, but I have no idea how
to diagnose, or whether there may be OS or software issues. Anyone
have any pointers?

Thanks in advance,

Paul
