because with such a broad area as linux there is always a vast area of
knowledge you don't even know exists.

Gurus are people who have a narrow band of knowledge that goes extremely
deep. They are worse than newbies once they leave that band of
knowledge and generally acknowledge this fact.

The only thing I know is that I know nothing at all.

it's impossible to know everything but important to know that you don't
know everything. If someone claims to be an expert it's easy to shoot
them down my finding one chink in their armour everyone should try to
keep the newbie nature and use it to explore and learn new areas. Gurus
are the people most likely to ask silly questions outside of their
chosen arena but they don't get any problems doing this because they ask
questions extremely well ;-)

just like the discussion about forums where my use of the term
accessibilty differed from yours I think we have a difference in the way
we are currently using newbie. I am not using newbie to describe
someone who is new to a subject but someone who has something new to
learn about a subject. I think my definition is a little more subtule
than the one commonly used and is probably where our views differ.
