[Wolves] Make Gnome Fast! [Was: What makes Gnome/KDE slow?]

The culprit that was slowing down my machines was apparently Metacity.
I am now using Gnome again but with XFCE's WM which is quite tricky to
set up though I imagine there is a much easier way to do with some
file you can edit that defines what gnome starts with?

Anyway it's just as fast as before when I was using XFCE/Gnome.
Another thing which slowed down the machine was the Tomboy Applet, I
now use Tomboy via "tomboy --tray-icon" as this seems faster.

I just have to try this on two other machines to make sure.
