There are in fact loads of files and directories in
every users home directory that begin with a . symbol
and these are all of your personal settings and files
for each application. Under ./mozilla-thunderbird will
be your profile and all of your mail.

If, in your file browser you go to your home directory
and enable the show hidden files option, you will be
able to see them. Or at a command prompt do an ls -a. 

As a habit, whenever doing an ls, I also use the -l
option to display a listing so maybe you want to do an
ls -la. Just a hint for any new lurkers out there :)
