Not drunk water directly from the tap for about 6 years now although the other 
week during the heat wave we ran out of bottled and I tried a sip of tap 
water and spat it out straight away.

The chemicals!! my god you could taste em.

As for the works being done round your way I just hope they don't find the 
feed I hooked up round there :-S
