[Wolves] Nvu question

OK, here's my problem. I run my own server on which, among other bits
and bobs lives my website. I want to use Nvu to edit this, but seem
unable to persuade Nvu to log into var/www/. It seems to only want to
reach /home/me/.

I can't work out why, because Dreamweaver on my iMac will happily ftp
into var/www/. Any ideas?
