Yep, done that.

I can boot into graphical mode, using an external boot loader, be it a floppy
or CD I can also boot up using the SuSE DVD in rescue mode which is a non
graphical environment I think init2 as there is no shutdown or reboot you
have to use ctrl-d which will re-boot the system.

H'm not done that, will put on my list of things to try.
This is really annoying as usually I can solve this in 5 minutes but this time
I'm losing the battle :(
