[Wolves] External enclosures for drives?

Does anybody know if these external drive enclosure can be used for an
optical drive?  Or, are there two different types?  One for hard
drives and the other for CD/DVD drives?

It is Linux relevant as I want to put a distro onto a nifty little
Sony Picture Book :-)))
