what would be really good, would be if people stopped paying other
people stupid amounts of money to kick a ball around a field, and
decided to use that money to reward people who really make a difference
in society - by which I mean: scientists, artists, teachers,
researchers, etc...
I don't object to sport in general, but I think it passes a negative
message when the rewards offered for useless 'celebrity' skills (and
football is a useless skill) are so high - especially when people who
make a daily contribution to the lives of other people or the betterment
of society are treated as freaks, and shunned by the society they are
attempting to improve.
Before someone draws the obvious parallel:Yes, I feel the same way
about music - real musicians quite easily earn vast wads of cash by
doing live performances to packed stadiums, while the crappy pop-idol
zombie-mentality-factory-manufactured-big
limp-wristed-electro-contemporary-bu115h17 -artists send out wild packs
of dogs if someone listens to a record in public without permission.
I will not bow to the "look pretty: sound crap" mentality of music any
more than I will bow to the media moguls who promote football and
deplore science. I support the rights of those who want to act like
pretecious-arses with no social concience, but I don't want to see them
rewarded for their ignorance by the all enveloping pog-trading football
player mentality, and I don't like the way society in general idolises
worthless self-promoters instead of those who gain recognition through
achievement and diligence.
so, in answer to your question...... not particularly, no.
