Forget Ubuntu for a moment, what about the various slim jim distro's?
They are fully capable of an excellent computing experience.
Something like Puppy Linux for example.  The whole desktop actually
looks like a retro MS Windows theme as it uses the JWM.  Add to that
it is a growing (in scope not size) distro.  Of course, Puppy is not
alone there are many more that will run like the wind on an old PC.
The problem is, have too many people been seduced by the marketing
boys and their hype about must have 'latest' technology?
