Variously myself, and two of my children, have used 760s -
mostly with Debian 2.1 and WindowMaker. Debian Etch and
the PWM window manager (not PWM2 or 3) would be a good
bet.
Use RXVT instaead of xterm, and you'll have plenty of RAM
left over for apps. Links2, with the SVGA libraries, will
give you a graphical browser on a virtual console with
little memory use.
Have fun with it, but don't expect the same desktop
experience as someone with 2GB RAM running GNOME or
KDE ;-)
