Sorry about top-posting, but I do research for a company on a casual
basis. They are introducing a new way of recording results via the
internet (currently, I reply by filling in a form and posting it) and
this is what they say (my reply is below):

Dear Researcher

Please be aware that if you access your internet through a Web Browser
other than Internet Explorer, for example Firefox, then you may
experience issues with the functionality of XXX. Unfortunately this is
outside of our control and we would recommend that when using XXX you
access the internet through 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' (version 6 or
higher). You can upgrade your Internet Explorer by downloading Version
7 at <http://www.microsoft.com> www.microsoft.com

You may also find that you experience problems if you are accessing XXX
from a Macintosh computer. Again, we are unable to resolve these
issues, but please contact the XXX Helpline on XXXXX XXXXXX to let us
know if your only access to the internet is from a Mac.

I'm afraid I don't use Microsoft or Mac software at home. I use
Linux/Firefox.

What do you mean by the phrase "outside of our control" ? Surely your
software/web developer is W3C compliant:

http://www.w3.org/Consortium/

If XXX is developed in-house then please get your developer to look
into this. If it was provided by a supplier/contractor please ask why
they are not compliant.

I stopped using Microsoft products at home years ago and I don't intend
to start again. Therefore, I won't be using XXX until it works with
Firefox on Linux. I will be calling the Helpline to discuss this
further.

Regards

Rob Broadfield
