Am running a fully updated Intrepid Beta (so probably the full release
packages now, idunno) and every few minutes pulse ramps up to 100% CPU
usage and pauses playback for a few seconds - then goes back to
normal.

Any clues as to why? It's IMO major enough to be worth me going back to Hardy.
