[Wolves] Is Internet Explorer 8 really so troublesome?

Okay it's The Register, so sensational is the watch word, but this article

suggests IE 8, is having real problems rendering a lot of very popular
sites. I'm trying to work out - is this because IE 8 is actually
following the standards, but these sites are still sending it markup
tuned to IE 6 and 7? Is IE 8 still not quite getting it right, or is
something more subtle happening?

Aq, I'd love to hear your take on this.
