Sorry Wayne, I may have mis-read your initial post, are you trying to
ensure the files are gone or are you trying to retrieve them?

if you wish to retrieve them, try using file scavenger to do so, it's
a windows tool iirc, works a treat as long as you _don't_ USE or
ACCESS the volume you are trying to recover, you also need to have
ample space to retrieve the data on to...
