Just to book-end this conversation, after some brief testing of a PAYG
SIM from 3, I took a punt and have generally been pretty happy. There
are a few strange dead spots where there's no phone signal (which aren't
on their coverage map) such as my parents in Whitmore Reans and around
the Tettenhall Road, but it works fine at home which was my overriding
concern and no problems with the 3G signal anywhere yet, not that I get
about that much these days.
