Richard - I have done that exact thing - my XBMC is a raspberry pi as well..
There is an rough -ish guide (of sorts) on my blog @ http://titaniumbunker.com/?p=2651
There are a couple of buttons you need to enable on XBMC (all graphical) and then you can use the remote like a standard remote.
Hope that helps. I'll try and pop the last couple of screen shots on there (probably tomorrow night).

choice what programme to watch via netflix and other streaming
services.

Hi Mark,
I have been playing with XMBC on a Raspberry Pi and have got a Tesco
Hudl working as my remote. You can download the official XBMC remote
control app from the Google Play store. It works over your LAN, but
you'll need to manually configure the Android app with the IP
address of your XMBC machine as there's no auto-scan.
Cheers,
Richard.
