Both RHAT and Canonical are commercial entries. Although RHAT could be funny it's always been fairly straight on where it made it's money, Canonical ended up doing it more underhand and got caught doing it causing much badness in the community as a result .

Nobody wants to buy it outright. Mark squandered all the really good
parts of Canonical-nee-Ubuntu including the goodwill of the Ubuntu
Community. The only part of the company now that has any value is their
Cloud Services which, though it pains me to say so, is in fact probably
one of the best Open Source offerings currently available in the market
place.
