Hi All,

At the next WYLUG meeting, Mon 16th April, I'll be giving the talk

Internet Protocol Version 6 - An Introduction

which is a talk I gave internally in the University of Leeds to introduce
SysAdmins to IPv6 basics and give an overview of the IPv6 deployment
within the University.

The slides of the talk are at

  http://www.comp.leeds.ac.uk/jj/linux/IPv6.html

The talk assumes a knowledge of current (IPv4) networking basics, though
I'll be happy to expand bits where necessary.

IPv6 has been about to happen bigtime for many years, but we may be
getting closer to seeing major deployment. Another intro to IPv6 at

  http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/IPv6.ars/

says "As of January 1, 2007, 2.4 billion of those were in (some kind of)
use. 1.3 billion were still available and about 170 million new addresses
are given out each year. So at this rate, 7.5 years from now, we'll be
clean out of IP addresses; faster if the number of addresses used per year
goes up.". And has some interesting diagrams showing IP block assignment
in 1993, 2000 and 2007.

cheers
Jim
