Summary
-------
Richard Ibbotson from ShefLUG has very kindly agreed to visit ManLUG,
the talk is a brief introduction to Iptables and Packet Filter with
some examples. He will show an easy to use graphical interface that
should help the end user to understand how to eventually get to the
point where they can write their own rules with a text editor.
I shall be showing how it was when the GNU/Linux and BSD projects
started up. At that time it was assumed that everyone was able to use
Emacs or vi at the time of being born to create tortuously complicated
configuration rules for Iptables or Packet Filter. In the present day
you can just download and use graphical and pointer based software
which will allow you to quickly build and configure a firewall to
protect your workstation and data. You still need to understand some
simple networking technology but that doesn't take too long to learn.
After the meeting there will be some notes and video here....

If anyone wants to come along please do. Remember that parking a car
in Manchester is almost impossible. The best experience is given by
taking the train from Leeds station.
