Thanks for all your comments, but after spending (wasting) several days
trying to get it to work, I have given up on hpijs. I found a postscript ppd
which works OK.

Much as it pains me to say it, this is one area where windows really scores,
and "linux on the desktop" will suffer until the printer manufactures start
producing easy to install/reliable drivers.

Wash your mouth out with soap I hear you all cry................

Almost certainly OT but I have an ancient djet500 which I use for draft
prints.

Under Fedora Core 1 (aka --RedHat10??), the "recommended driver" is hpijs.
But *it doesn't work* - all printing is squashed to the LHS: like no NULLs
being transmitted (or possibly ignored colour data?)

Gimp-print, gimp-print-ijs or djet500 are OK

Maybe someone else still has a dj500?
Mine still soldiers on !
