I've got a Thinkpad T42 that I quite like. The only binary drivers are for the 
video card (ATi) and you only need those if you want 3D. Wifi drivers are 
Centrino ipw2200 and open source. In general I find the more binary drivers 
you have the more problems but YMMV. AFAIK the builtin wifi on Apple doesn't 
work under Linux at all, but that may have changed since I looked, the 
graphics are a similar ATi to the T42 I believe.
