[Wylug-discuss] Launching an editor as root in kde

I'm finding that I can't launch kwrite or any other editor within a root 
konqueror file-manager window.  This has often happened to me in the 
past, and I've normally cured it by issuing 'xhost +localhost", but 
this gives me 'xhost: unable to open display " " '

Any idea what the problem is, please?
