Hello Dave,

Please don't take silence to mean acquiescence.

No fear. Its called not realising I've only joined wylug-announce as opposed
to wylug-discuss.

People haven't had much time to read and understand your proposal or
its implications,

Apologies. A planet is an aggregator - it pulls in information from lots of
different sites - in this case WYLUGers blogs - on to one page.

 * What WYLUG might use it for, that the existing wordpress blog can't do?

The blog simply provides upcoming information about WYLUG. By the way - do
you realise it is not linked from the main page? The planet provides
constantly updated POV from members. The main benefit I can see is that it
gives a personal face to WYLUG. I'm afraid I do think that people new to
Linux are intimidated coming to their first meeting and if they know a
little about what may be discussed and the kind of things and thought
processes that occur they will feel less threatened. When I attend there is
always some discussion about what can be done to improve attendance - I feel
this is one thing that most certainly can. Computing by its very nature
lacks a human touch but now I'm starting to spout...
It will also keep the site looking fresh.

*>* python >= 2.2.*

That's probably not a problem, but there are limits to what we can do.

I am happy to host and embed the planet on the wylug site. My hosting is
severely under-utilised anyway.

Leeds Uni hosts for us.

See above. Thanks for the response - I hope this gives folks an idea of what
the planet can do. My hope would be that all blog content would be
syndicated - as commented this appears to work for other planets and gives
it the personal touch.

Cheers
Chris
