Hi,

It's nothing more than a remote possibility at this stage, but I'm
considering buying a Nokia N810:

Since I know that several WYLUG members have similar Nokia tablets, I
thought it wise to ask around before pursuing the idea further.

The biggest drawback of these tablets, in terms of _my_ needs, is their
lack of built in mobile phone capabilities.

I believe that they can hook up to a phone via bluetooth, but that is
fiddly and the bandwidth available on my mobile phone is probably
unacceptable.

On the other hand, I do have a 3G modem which works with my laptop:

There is a Linux driver for this family of modems:

  https://forge.vodafonebetavine.net/projects/vodafonemobilec/

And a howto:

So I was wondering about whether I could use the driver, or hack the
stack, to work on maemo ... I'm guessing the latter would be necessary.

Since I have no experience of maemo at all, the thoughts who have would
be appreciated.

Dave
