[Wylug-discuss] Xscreensaver as wallpaper

Hi

Years ago I used to be able to run an xscreensaver as a wallpaper on
redhat Linux running ./glmatrix -root.

I have recently got back into Linux and run latest release of Ubuntu
Desktop Linux and the above no longer works the command runs with no
problems but the desktop background stays as it is with a wallpaper. I
even tried disabling the wallpaper and running the above.
I use Gnome as my window manager, has anyone ideas what might be
stopping this from working.
