I haven't used Enlightenment so can't comment but from my experience
installing linux on old PC's I would go with Fedora with XFCE or Xubuntu for
a nicer installer. I think it'll fit your needs really well although I would
be tempted to splash out a few nicker on another 256MB stick for your laptop
if you can. It goes pretty cheap on eBay nowadays.
