I have a laptop at work thats about 13 years old. Trouble is only about half 
the keys work on the keyboard. I had to create a special login and password 
combination to keep it going.  Not worth repairing - it does it's job so I 
leave it alone. It will die at its post. Like you say, it feels like a 
cartel/conspiracy sometimes.
