You should be able to get hold of a small optical mouse from somewhere 
for not much :)  I use one that RedHat gave to me at the Gartner Open 
Source conference in Barcelona.  Very useful add on device for 
travelling.

Other than that you have to decide on your own choice of GNU/Linux 
distribution.  This might help ? ....
